Øki Hikøki is the solo project of Brian Packham. Brian began his journey in the small suburban town of Cockeysville, Maryland playing piano and drums. In high school, Brian teamed up with his friend, bass player, singer and guitarist Dean Morekas (Iluvatar) and started recording pieces on two cassette decks. Brian moved to boston to attend Berklee College of music where he majored in traditional composition.
Brian got involved with the local original scene playing keyboards in the experimental rock band Meta Terra (Elaine Vasquez- vocals, Jere Faison - bass/ vocals, John Karr- guitar/vocals, Lamar Lowder- drums, keyboards. Meta Terra put out one EP titled ‘Luna’, produced by Bob Dylan guitarist Stewart Kimbal, just prior to the untimely death from brain cancer of vocalist Elaine Vasquez. Shortly thereafter Brian got a call to audition for the keyboard spot in the Grammy Award™ nominated band, Rubber Rodeo, (Hal Cragin -bass, Reeves Gabriels-guitar, Bob Holmes-guitar,vocals, Trish Milliken-vocals, Tom Hambridge-drums and Clark Goodpastor , drums) During his tenure in Rubber Rodeo/ Boo Radley Brian played on many studio sessions and collaborated on the track “Coventry Carol” with old friends Lamar Lowder and Patty Barkas on the critically acclaimed Holiday record Gross Santa’s Yuletide Favorites. A short but happy stint with Jamie Ruben’s Bohemian Love Fest culminated in an appearance at the WBCN Rumble.
At this time Brian began to get work composing music for industrial/ in-house media projects and He stopped performing actively with bands until his wife got him involved with the irish music scene where he joined the band Tradition - which has been a hoot. By this time Brian had the time and means to take the backlog of pieces he had been writing and turn them into something, thus- Øki Hikøki was born and here you are reading about it and listening to it. Thanks.
